Steam Carousel and Circus Fun at Donley’s Summer Classic Auction – Saturday, July 18
UNION, IL – Donley’s Summer Classic Auction is just ahead, this Saturday, July 18. From a historic Steam Carousel, to carousel horses, a full circus poster collection, 19th century puppets and much more. If you are not near Chicago, you can view the catalog online and bid on PROXIBID.
If you have ever wanted unlimited rides on the carousel, here is your chance. You can own the only steam-powered carousel still in private hands. 16 of the 17 known 1880s Herschell-Spillman Folk Art steam carousels are owned by museums and municipalities. This one has been in the hands of dealer/restorer Dan Horenberger. It originally operated in the Chicago area. The Herschell-Spillman catalog called it ‘the 20th Century Model’.
It holds 24 rocker mount horses and 2 chariots. As originally built, this carousel can be operated by either steam or electricity.
The summer fun continues with a baker’s dozen carousel horses, a rare, vintage elephant carousel chariot and the entire lifetime collection of circus and carnival posters from carnival owners Ray & Sharon Genter of Michigan. The auction holds a 6 seat, hand-powered children’s merry-go-round with organ, and a rare, Civil War era TRAVELING PUPPET THEATRE with 18 hand-carved, wooden head puppets, all in excellent condition.
Bring the fun indoors to bid on a Brunswick style, Lion’s Head Bar and Back Bar, MARILYN MONROE collection and a WURLITZER 700 jukebox. Pimp your man cave or personal arcade with pinball machines, nickelodeons, trade stimulators, slot machines, shuffle alleys, gum ball machines and a CLAM SHELL MUTOSCOPE.
