1900 Weona Park Dentzel Menagerie Carousel –
It is said that back in the early 1920s, the city really wanted a carousel. They just didn’t quite have the funds to buy a new one. Dentzel spiffed up this stationary carousel, (much less expensive without the jumping mechanism), and gave Pen Argyl a great deal on the 44 animal menagerie. No lions or tigers, though.
One of only a few carousels left with an operational ring arm, the Weona Park Dentzel was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
The carousel has been at Weona Park, Pen Argyl, PA, since 1923.
