PORTLAND, OR – 1921 C. W. Parker “Superior” 4-Row Carousel
Known most recently as the Jantzen Beach Carousel, the huge Parker carousel, one of only 4 Superior Parkers known to have been built, operated on Venice Beach Pier, Venice, CA, out of the factory, from 1921 to 1924. It sat in storage in Long Beach until it was sold and moved to Jantzen Beach Park in Portland, Oregon, where it operated from 1928 to 1970 when the park closed. Next, the carousel anchored the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter shopping mall in Portland from 1972 to 2012 when the mall was demolished and redeveloped in favor of big box retailers. The whereabouts of the carousel are apparently unknown to anyone, (except the development company who owns it). It is assumably in storage somewhere in the Portland area with no rumors or hints to it coming out of the box any time soon. READ MORE>>>
