Allan Herschell Carousel Factory Museum Looks Toward 100th
Carrousel Museum prepares for 100th anniversary
Lockport Union-Sun & Journal
North Tonawanda, NY – After an excellent 2014, the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is preparing for an eventful — and historic — 2015. Museum director Rae Proefrock said the year will include the usual calendar of events, as well as the marking of the 100th anniversary of the Allan Herschell Company’s founding — and the planned opening of a new building for the museum complex.
The museum received grant awards from Empire State Development and the state Thruway Authority (with matching funds from the Western New York Foundation and the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation) to restore the original Allan Herschell Company office building at 39 Geneva St., which is next to the current Children’s Gallery. The former cottage became a private residence when the company was sold in 1959, and the owners later sold the building to the museum. Roswell, NM leaders looking for new home for historic carousel
KOB.com
ROSWELL, NM – The historic carousel at Roswell’s zoo is more than 100 years old and could be worth $1 million, but some say it is not being properly maintained, and there is now talk of moving it. The carousel has been at the Spring River Zoo since 1971.
Many people have memories of riding it as a kid, but some say if things don’t change, the carousel may not be running for long. “Broken legs, broken tails, broken pieces,” said David Stevens.
Stevens says the carousel isn’t being repaired, and since it’s outdoors, it’s being exposed to the elements. “In my view it’s never been treated with the attention that an asset of that caliber merits, unfortunately,” said Stevens.
This is personal to David because his mother, Marianne Stevens, is the one who donated the carousel. She sold carousels for a living; some sit in major cities like San Francisco and Detroit. The one in Roswell was the only one donated because she had ties to the area. Stevens says all the other carousels are indoors and are being properly maintained.
“There are several communities across the country that have antique carousels from Marianne that have a devoted staff that do a fabulous job of making those 100-year-old carousels looks like they’re brand new,” said Stevens.
Roswell Mayor Dennis Kintigh agrees. He says it is not being taken care of properly and wants to change that. READ MORE >>

Carousel in discussion for Butte
NBC Montana
Linda Teller is just one of the many people who used to enjoy the majestic carousel at the Columbia Gardens in Butte until it burned in a fire in 1973. Teller said she used to plan with her husband about taking their future children to the park.
Greetings from Asbury Park
TravelPulseZ
Ten years ago, the Asbury Park Boardwalk was a place where the sad skeletal ruins of abandoned amusement park rides exuded a Dante-esque feeling of “Abandon all hope ye who enter here.” It’s not that way now. Today, an art and music scene is driving a surging restaurant and bar scene in the downtown area, a few blocks from the beach. The diversity and sophistication of the scene is reflected in new restaurants like Talula’s where craft beers and crafted pizza and other dishes using locally sourced organic ingredients are attracting a hip, but older crowd. …
