Brooklyn, NY – Frank Sinatra sang it best… today, Jane’s Historic Carousel lives it…
“I’ll make a brand new start of it In old New York… If I can make it there; I’ll make it anywhere… New York, New York…”
From Youngstown, Ohio, to the Big Apple, PTC #61, Jane’s Carousel is “A-Number One” in my book, and a prized role model and inspiration to every historic carousel out there.
We’d like wish Jane’s Carousel and Friends the Happiest of Holidays, and also to share her 2014 Holiday Greeting and thanks with all:
Happy Holidays and Thank You to all our Friends and Fans!
From Jane, Jane’s Carousel;
Once again, I’d like to share the events and triumphs of the past year at Jane’s Carousel.
We started the year off with a much needed mini-restoration of the horses after tremendous wear and tear from 3 years of operation and almost 1,000,000 riders. We sanded down and repainted all 48 saddles and touched up the gold and silver leaf. The work was done on site with a crew of 6 talented artists. We managed throughout the 3 month process to have the Carousel open as scheduled each week. It was great to see the horses bright and shiny again. Everyone noticed!
We’re delighted to report that we’ve had another hugely successful year with more awards and accolades. We’ve been honored with everything from Trip Advisor’s recognition as “NY State’s Top Family Attraction Worth Traveling For” to the “Best Place in NYC for a First Date”. We were thrilled also that Heinemann, the scholastic book group, published a wonderful story of Jane’s Carousel with lovely drawings and photos, for national use as an elementary school reader.
The horses continue to be loved, ridden once again by more than 300,000 riders from all over the world and visited by thousands more who just stop by to take photos and say hello. Last Spring, at the close of the school year, we once again entertained hundreds of school children from more than 25 schools and offered them affordable, discounted rides.
In 2014, the Carousel welcomed more than 200 children’s Birthday Parties and hosted many fun and glamorous grown up celebrations. The Carousel continues to be an enormously popular venue for all things romantic: weddings, engagement and anniversary parties and even pre-arranged marriage proposal rides.
We were excited this year to have been the chosen venue for some very sophisticated and successful corporate events. It’s always exciting to see the Carousel at night, all dressed up and beautifully lit. We hosted the Don Julio Party to kick off their Airstream Speakeasy Tour and the innovative + Pool Group chose the Carousel for their first fundraising event. In April we participated in “The Big Egg Hunt” with 6 beautifully designed giant eggs placed in and around the Carousel and in September we entertained 200 members of the National Carousel Convention for their first NY convention.
Jane’s Carousel is fortunate to continue to have great press and inclusion in architecture and travel stories from around the world. Fashion and lifestyle magazines from places as far away as Japan, Germany and Brazil continue to photograph at the Carousel. We’ve been featured on many US and International TV shows and have been the chosen location for many prestigious advertising campaigns. Some of the 2014 highlights shot at the Carousel were a full musical number for GLEE, an exciting NBC pilot with an amazing forensic mind reader and a scene in a soon to be released film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts.
Along with our successes, we are proud that we continue to be generous with our friends and neighbors. As always, we donate Carousel tickets to our local schools and organizations for their special fundraising needs and events.
It has been another amazing and exciting year! The Carousel staff and I continue to work very hard to make Jane’s Carousel a very special, fun and beautiful place to visit. We wish everyone a very Happy Holiday and the best of everything in the coming year. Be sure to come by for a ride!
Very best wishes,
Jane
