Golden Age American Carousel Frogs/Toads
Only Herschell-Spillman carved carousel frogs or toads. A fairly rare menagerie figure on the park machines, though they did also pop up on many H-S portables. Another rare whimsical figure, (like the Looff Teddy bear), the Herschell-Spillman frogs were all poised and ready to jump, thus also called a “hopping toad”. Also, they were all [carved] dressed in shorts and suspenders of some sort. The frogs were the only Golden Age carousel figure known to be carved wearing human clothes.
