Benefactor Will Match All Donations to Historic 1922 Coeur d’Alene Carousel. Deadline, Jan. 1, 2016.
Coeur d’Alene, ID – The original 1922 Spillman Engineering carousel that operated at Playland Pier from 1941 through to the mid-1970s, returned to the city all restored and ready to run in 2011. Four years later, the carousel is still ready to run. The historic ride still seeks a new building and finalization of its new location in the city. The carousel was purchased and gifted to the city by Mr. John Foote and his wife Pat. And now, in order to help move things along, another local benefactor has stepped up.
A generous contribution in matching funds toward a new building and operating costs has been made. The benefactor has set a deadline of Jan. 1, 2016, to raise funds for the matching donation.
The Coeur d’Alene Carousel Foundation in Idaho is the local nonprofit that now owns the historic, wooden 1922 Spillman carousel called a Spillman, Jr. with its 2-rows and 20 hand-carved horses. Sadly, Mr. Foote passed away before seeing the carousel operate for the public again. Four years have passed now. Its time to get this carousel housed and running.
