ALBANY, NY – Hundreds of children and their families came out Saturday afternoon to celebrate 100 years of the New York State Museum’s Carousel. In a presentation by New York State Museum historian emeritus John Scherer, he discussed the history and conservation of the century-old merry-go-round and the efforts to bring it to the museum and the task of keeping it for future generations.

Euclid Beach’s Grand Carousel gallops back to life on Sunday
By CRAIG WEBB Published: November 20, 2014
CLEVELAND, OH – It has been nearly 45 years since Euclid Beach’s Grand Carousel has thrilled Northeast Ohioans. This weekend, music from the carousel’s historic organ and the sounds laughter of children and adults alike will once again fill the air after decades of silence. The refurbished carousel will reopen to the public on Sunday in its new $2 million digs at the Western Reserve Historical Society museum in Cleveland’s University Circle. After Euclid Beach closed in 1969, the carousel was sold and shipped off to Palace Playland in Maine.
Built in 1910 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Co., the carousel — known as PTC #19 — was installed at Euclid Beach Park that year to replace a smaller attraction.
The carousel has four rows of horses with three inside rows of so-called “jumpers” and an outside row of nearly life size stationary horses. The ride has 58 horses and two chariots.
When Palace Playland was sold in 1996, there was a fear the carousel and its highly collectible horses would be sold off in pieces. The carousel was purchased by The Trust for Public Land and later sold to Cleveland Tomorrow.
